Peter Dixon turns 80 !

Happy 80th Birthday, Professor Peter Dixon!

From its beginnings in the IMPACT Project at the Industry Assistance Commission in the early 1970s, through decades at Monash University, and today at Victoria University, there has been one constant at the Centre of Policy Studies: Professor Peter Dixon.

For more than half a century, Peter has helped shape the field of computable general equilibrium modelling, influencing public policy, advancing economic research, and inspiring generations of economists around Australia and the world, particularly through his contributions to the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model and network.

On 22nd July 2026, the CoPS team celebrated Peter's 80th birthday and reflected on the extraordinary contribution he has made to our Centre, our discipline, and the many people who have had the privilege of working alongside him.

While his achievements are remarkable, those who know Peter best will tell you that his greatest qualities are his generosity, humility and enthusiasm. There have been many milestones in the history of CoPS, and Peter has been there for all of them. We are profoundly grateful that, after all these years, he continues to bring the same curiosity, creativity and passion that helped establish the Centre's reputation in the first place.

Happy 80th Birthday, Peter. CoPS simply would not be CoPS without you.
